The National Trust’s 2010 season will be launched on Saturday 13 March by former rocketmen of the Isle of Wight. As part of National Science & Engineering Week they will be on hand at the Needles New Battery on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th March between 12 noon and 2pm, to answer visitors’ questions about what it was like to have been involved in Britain’s race for space. As the story of Black Knight and Black Arrow becomes more widely known, interest in this remote part of the island and the people who worked there is rapidly increasing and last year over 47,500 people visited the free exhibition at the New Battery. As Heather Bradshaw, Assistant Property Manager says “If haven’t discovered this part of the island’s recent history yet, then make the most of this opportunity to come along and meet some of the people who were involved in the space programme.”
The Needles New Battery is open from 13 March to 31 October 2010, Tuesdays, Saturdays & Sundays from 11am – 4pm and other days where possible.
