Carisbrooke Castle is offering a mixture of four-legged and frightful activities during half term week guaranteed to give everyone in the family a fun-filled historic day out.
From 10am until 4pm every day from Saturday 13 until Sunday 21 February, children can meet the castle donkeys and see who plays up for staff during feeding and grooming sessions being put on each morning and afternoon for half term only. The donkeys will also be happily showing off their skills turning the waterwheel during their regular short demonstrations in the castle Well House.
Throughout each day knowledgeable staff will be spilling the beans on the haunts and habits of the castle’s famous phantom residents during frightfully fun ghostly storytelling sessions – suitable for youngsters and mum and dad too.
Families can watch a film narrated by comedian Phill Jupitus which introduces characters from the castle’s past and there are interactive displays to try out – including a crossbow to ‘fire’ and costumes to try and visitors will be fascinated by the castle’s museum, packed with memorabilia and information about the Isle of Wight.
Carisbrooke is every inch a storybook castle with battlements to march across and a keep to climb. Famous as a prison to King Charles I visitors can see the room from which he tried to escape – twice!
The Carisbrooke Shop will be open and after an entertainment-packed day out families can take a well earned break in the Coach House Tearoom which will be serving a selection of hot and cold food.
